What is hosting and domain? (Easily explained)

In this article, I will talk about web hosting and domain for websites and try to explain their purpose and use in a very simple way. For this, I will compare it to a memory card (usb flash drive).

Hosting

Just as a memory card stores all the information that we write to it, hosting also stores all the video, audio, text and other necessary files. We will also have access to it from anywhere and we will not have to “carry” it. A memory card can be 1GB, 3GB, 5GB, etc., just like hosting. All sizes have different prices. Information on a memory card can be written, copied, and processed slowly or quickly, just like hosting, the speed of which depends on the selected package.

As a rule, we use Google Drive or DropBox only to upload files and share them with friends. We use web hosting to store the material necessary for websites (photos, videos, text and other files), which is the basis for the site to work.

We need to attach/connect hosting (several GB of space on the Internet) to our domain, then upload the files necessary for the website to the hosting and launch the site.

Domain

Again, if we consider a memory card (usb flash drive), a domain is a name that It is called our memory card when we connect it to a laptop, phone, etc. Imagine that up to 10 memory cards are connected to our computer. All of them are the same size, 16 GB. When we know what our file is called, we can easily access it and see the necessary information on the memory card we are looking for.

For a website, a domain is a name, for example, google.com, facebook.com, from Georgian myvideo.ge, a site through which the user finds exactly the information he needs in the vast space that we call the Internet.

When we have bought a domain and have hosting, we can “launch” the site.

Launching a website

When we have bought a domain and hosting, we send the data to our web developer, the person who creates the site for us, and he uploads the necessary material for the site to our hosting. If we can’t connect the hosting and domain ourselves, we can ask the developer for help and he will do it for us.

Finally, we bought the domain and hosting, registered it with our company, sent our data to the developer, and our site is ready to work.
